Settings › Rulesets: creating and editing your own rulesets

Decide which rules are measured, override impact and effort, and keep a versioned history.

A ruleset determines which rules an application is measured against and with which priority. Omnext provides a default ruleset per language; Settings › Rulesets lets administrators create their own variants.

The list shows your organisation's rulesets with Name, Language, Version and Last modified by. Use Search rulesets… to find one.

Creating a ruleset

  1. Click New ruleset.
  2. Select the Language (for example Java, MendixMpr or OpenSource). The rules for that language are loaded.
  3. Enter a Ruleset name and an optional Description.
  4. In the Rules grid, decide per rule:
    • In set – tick to include the rule; untick to exclude it. The counter shows n of m selected.
    • Impact and Effort – leave Default (…) or pick an override (Very high, High, Medium, Low, Very low) to deviate from the rule's default priority.
    • Context (optional) – a note that explains your choice; it is shown in the Rule catalogue.
    • Use Search rules… to find a rule.
  5. Click Create ruleset.

Editing a ruleset

Click Edit next to the ruleset, make your changes, enter an Explanation / note (required) describing what changed and why, and click Save as new version. Every change creates a new version, so the history of a ruleset is preserved.

Putting a ruleset to use

A ruleset only has effect once it is assigned under Settings › Apply rulesets. Changes apply from the next analysis onwards. The read-only view of all rulesets is available to everyone under Rule catalogue › Rulesets.
